What's with the walk sections on the Bike Streets Map?
It turns out, counterintuitively perhaps, that walking your bike is an incredibly useful tool for bikers in a urban setting. Anytime you feel uncomfortable, you can get off and become a pedestrian.
We use this tool on the Bike Streets Map to provide guidance on how to handle challenging intersections and places where you’re not allowed to ride your bike.
In the longer term, we’d like the city to designate certain sidewalks as places where you can ride, but for now, just hop off, walk a block or two, enjoy stretching your legs, and then hop back on at the end of the walk-your-bike section.
